The changing of seasons can play havoc with your outdoor space. Whether it's because of a little too much sunlight or too much frost and cold in the winter months, to ensure your garden looking is in top condition all year round, all it takes is a little bit of planning. We take a look at a couple of ways to prepare your garden for the various seasons to make sure your garden is in the best possible condition.

Spring

Spring is arguably the season that truly brings your garden to life, full of vibrant colours and textures. Much like the home, the garden is also an area that is due a spring clean or at least a slight overhaul. You'll want to check any sign of unwanted growth and take the time to do a little bit of prep on your beds, removing any debris that has collected over the winter months.

If you haven't been pruning during the winter, now is the time to do so, ensure you do this before the buds come into bloom or you run the risk of stressing the tree and this will give you very little crop.

Summer

Summer is the most favourable time of year for many of us, and no doubt a time to really make the most of your garden either entertaining guests or gardening. But, to make it a space you’re proud of can take some effort. Grass at this time of year will be growing a lot quicker than usual, with this in mind, it’s crucial you keep on top of its growth spurts. While it’s advised that you have it slightly longer during the summer months, you should mow your lawn a few times a week, unless there’s a harsh drought period, in which case, one cut a week will suffice.

Autumn

Along with spring, autumn is definitely one of the most important seasons for gardeners. This is due to the fact that its an opportune time of year for undergoing what is referred to as ‘transplant’ gardening. This is due to the increased moisture levels in the soil caused by more frequent showers. Because of the summer warmth, spring bulbs and next summer’s bulbs should be planted by the end of September to give them time to adjust to their new surroundings and for their roots to grow. This puts them in the perfect position to bloom next year once the frost eventually thaws.

Winter

Many gardeners will find winter one of the most difficult seasons to maintain their outdoor spaces. It can be a little challenging to keep things in peak condition. Nevertheless, with good preparation throughout the autumn months, this doesn’t need to be the case. As a matter of fact, proper planning can make sure your winter garden looks beautiful with minimal effort.
